Most appearances:
Martin Hicks is most likely the longest serving player still at Bodmin Saints having played for the club under each of it's previous names. It is possible Martin has played more than 150 matches for the club. Dave (DJ) Jeffreys, Andy Libby, Darren Martindale, Billy McKellar have all made their mark for the club over a long time. DJ, Libbs, Billy and Darren are still currently signed on. Martin too is currently registered and has made it clear he will be available for selection again in the future.
Most goals in a season:
Dave (Deejay) Jeffries 17 2005 - 2006 Whilst Bodmin Saints were still Porthia FC.
Dave (Deejay) Jeffries 52 2006 - 2007
Dave (Deejay) Jeffries 56 2007 - 2008
Darren Martindale 29 "
Jay (Rooney) Ames 40 2008 - 2009
Liam Ames 36 "
Dan (DJ) Jennings 27 "
Most goals for the club:
Dave (Deejay) Jeffries 138 - ( 2009 - 2010 13 goals ) Goals in friendly matches would take the tally very close to 200.
Hat-tricks:
It is unknown how many hat-tricks Deejay has scored for the club. He has scored six or more goals in a match at least twice that I know of.
Biggest victorys: Saints 14 - 2 Padstow Utd Reserves - Saints 12 - 0 Calstock DL Cup
This result was eventually expunged from the league records; due to Padstow United dropping out of the Duchy league. Nevertheless Saints did score fourteen in a game where both had full sides on the pitch. Saints beat Padstow Utd in the return league match by 10 - 0. An overall score of 24 - 2 was deleted from the records for the 2007 - 2008 campaign.
Biggest defeat: Saints 5 - 7 Bere Alston United
I have no record of a worse defeat than this game. Actually 5 - 7 is not as bad as it looks at first glance. Saints were just totally disorganized in this game due mostly to a sending off of a central defender but they did keep fighting and gave Bere some scares throughout the match. A good scoreline considering and just one other thing: Saints won the return 10 - 4! Entertainments Are Us!!!
From the beginning:
Bodmin Saints began life as a six-a-side team, variously named but remembered initially as Bodmin Athletic. They morphed into BAJ Builders. Porthia FC came next in 2003. After playing numerous friendlies; the club eventually became members of the Duchy Football League. Porthia FC, lasted just one season before the next and last name-change. Porthia FC would became Bodmin Saints FC. A first season as Saints would bring the team instant promotion to Duchy division four. The following season would see another commendable finish. Saints taking fourth position. Fourth would see Bodmin Saints promoted once again. Season 2007 / 08 saw the launch of The new Southwest Peninsular League. The new league came into operation and with the withdrawal of some Duchy league teams moving up to the the East Cornwall division one and Cornwall Combination set-ups; more than two teams were promoted from each division.
A particular mention here for St Breward FC: thank-you St Breward for your hospitality towards us as your tenants and as our opponents on numerous occasions. I have no doubt there will be many more. Let's hope so!
Having ground-shared with Saint Breward at the Break Parc ground for two seasons; Saints have now taken up residence at the Dragon Leisure Centre on Lostwithiel Road, Bodmin Saints players and commitee are steadily building for themselves and the club; a good, firm foundation for the future. For non league and junior football in particular it is a difficult and sometimes precipitous task to keep the boat steady. Bodmin Saint's, players and management have already shown the kind of spirit needed to continue and to allow the club to prosper.
Recent discussions with Saint's chairman, Ty, has convinced me he is planning for the Saints long-term future. A thorough search is already underway for a permanent home-ground. A ground to call our own is a logical step for Bodmin Saints. With all due respect; it's time Bodmin Town FC had some good local opposition. It won't happen over-night but I believe it can happen through the well-known stubborness of our chairman and his fellow commitee members. I believe it is vital we all share the same beliefs. Team spirit is just as important off the pitch; as it is on.
Football at Duchy League level is sparsley populated by the die-hard football fan but one thing can be counted upon by anyone wishing to stop by the Dragon Centre on a wet and wintry Saturday afternoon; you will be entertained by Bodmin Saints FC. remember; Saints don't charge an entrance fee for their league matches but a donation of any size will always be welcomed. And don't forget; after a second consecutive promotion; Saints will now play in division three of the Duchy League. Division three is at step seventeen of the national pyramid. Next stop; division two, Step sixteen!
It is with great pleasure I can announce Bodmin Saints have in fact been promoted to the Duchy League divison two. Saints have had a super season, only two defeats and four draws, and most importantly; eighteen wins. During the season 2007 / 2008 Bodmin Saints notched 118 league goals and this with 24 being wiped out against the now defunct Padstow United reserves. It should be mentioned here Saints recorded their record score of 14 - 2 against PU r's. A great shame the scoreline is now void. The strike-force had just one game, against Lostwthiel, where they failed to score and hit ten or more in five league matches. Dave (DJ) Jeffreys hit a bigger total than he did last season. (56) Darren Martindale came a good second with 27 league strikes. Saints also scored more than thirty goals in a handful of pre-season friendlies.
The division three title is yet to be determined and it is difficult to imagine Week St Mary can score 27 goals in two games to overhaul us. An excellant season!
Saints win Div' 3 and take their first ever trophy. Well done to all the playing staff and especially manager Martin Hicks. A mention should be made of Week St Mary here: they launched themselves at the massive goal difference between us and made a fantastic effort by netting sixteen in their last match; to take second place. Well played W S M.
Another hugely successful season for Bodmin Saints. The second division title and Duchy League Cup were taken by the club and deservedly so. Saints stayed top of the league for many months with only Probus posing any threat. Five ten goal hauls were recorded, over a hundred league goals were scored once again. Liam Ames, Jason Ames and Dan Jennings finishing top scorers with 40, 34 and 29 respectively. Unfortunately the club lost these three excellant strikers for the new season.
Once again we are playing at the Dragon Centre but plans are still being followed to attain a permanent home pitch.
October 09:
Bodmin Saints have a new manager in Stephen Fryer. Steve is one of my oldest and personal friends and with the departure of Derek Thompson; we had no hesitation in asking him to come in. Fortunately for us Steve had no hesitation in accepting the role. Steve has brought Pete Stocker in with him. For us at Saints this is a remarkable time for the club. These two have a wealth of experience in Cornish Junior football and more importantly; at higher levels.
Unfortunately Steve and Pete have had to step aside from their short but successful stint in charge. Fortunately Joe Orchard put himself forward to take over as our player-manager. After a yo yo start he, and the club, is being rewarded with some impressive results. Promotion for this season is out of the question but I'm certain we'll be having a shout in 2010 - 2011!
The Youth!
We are preparing a youth team for next season and already have a growing squad of good young lads. So far we're not certain which league they will play in.
Ground! The possibility of a home ground is getting closer all the time. We have agreement with another sports club and just have to tie up some loose ends.More on that soon.
Pablo club secretary.
