Bodmin Saints Football Club

Founded 2003

Bodmin Saints first began life as a six-a-side team, variously named but remembered as BAJ Builders and at one time as Bodmin Athletic, a particular name that I think suits very well. Porthia FC came next in 2003. After playing various friendlies; the side quickly became members of the old Bodmin and District Football League. Porthia FC, lasted just one season before the next name-change. Porthia FC now became Bodmin Saints FC and as such they applied to join the Duchy Football League and were quickly accepted into division five. A first season brought the Saints instant promotion to division four where the following season saw another commendable finish. Saints  took fourth position. Fourth position would see Bodmin Saints promoted once again. Season 2007 /  08 saw the launch of The new Southwest Peninsular League. The new league came into operation and with the withdrawal of some Duchy league teams moving up to the the East Cornwall and  Falmouth and District set-ups; more than two teams were promoted from each division.
Having ground-shared  with Saint Breward at the Break Parc ground; Saints have now taken up residence at the Dragon Leisure Centre on Lostwithiel Road, Bodmin Saints are steadily building for themselves and their club; a good, firm foundation for the future. For non league and junior football in particular it is a difficult and sometimes precipitous task to keep the boat steady. Bodmin Saint's, players, management and commitee have already shown the kind of spirit needed to continue and to allow the club to prosper.
A recent discussion with Saint's chairman, Ty, has convinced me he is planning for the Saints long-term future. A thorough search is already underway for a permanent home-ground. A ground to call their own is a logical step for Bodmin Saints. With all due respect; it's time Bodmin Town FC had some good local opposition. It won't happen over-night but I believe it can happen through the well-known stubborness of our chairman and his fellow commitee members. I believe it is vital we all share the same beliefs. Team spirit is just as important off the pitch; as it is on.
Football at Duchy League level is sparsley populated by the die-hard football fan but one thing can be counted upon by anyone wishing to stop by the Dragon Centre on a wet and wintry Saturday afternoon; you will be entertained by Bodmin Saints FC. remember; Saints don't charge an entrance fee for their league matches but a donation of any size will always be welcomed. And don't forget; after a second consecutive promotion; Saints will now play in division three of the Duchy League. Division three is at step seventeen of the national pyramid. Next stop; division two, Step sixteen!

It is with great pleasure I can announce Bodmin Saints have in fact been promoted to the Duchy League divison two. Saints have had a super season, only two defeats and four draws, and most importantly; eighteen wins. During the season 2007 / 2008 Bodmin Saints notched 118 league goals and this with 24 being wiped out against the defunct Padstow United reserves. It should be mentioned here Saints recorded their record score of 14 - 2 against PU r's. A great shame the scoreline is now void. The strike-force had just one game, against Lostwthiel, where they failed to score and hit ten or more in five league matches. Dave (DJ) Jeffries his the same total as he did last season. (52) Darren Martindale came a good second with 27 league strikes. Saints also scored more than thirty goals in a handful of pre-season friendlies. The division three title is yet to be determined and it is difficult to imagine Week St Mary can score 27 goals in two games to overhaul us. An excellant season!
